Pro Tools Plug-Ins

Introduction to Quick APT and Doubler plug-ins

For Pro Tools users, there are two new Audio Suite plug-ins which transfer and process the selected Pro Tools audio in in as few as 2 or 3 keystrokes.

When using these plug-ins, a dedicated Session is created in Revoice Pro named >Audio Suite<. This session can only contain one process and one piece of audio in each track. When you add new audio to a track, the previous audio is removed.

This allows these plug-ins to largely emulate the simplicity of a VocALign Audio Suite Plug-in. This means, in many cases, because the actions taking place in the Revoice Pro program are totally automated, the Revoice Pro window can actually be ignored.

However, with Revoice Pro, if required, you have the option to modify any of Revoice Pro's settings to change or improve the results. But be aware that this Revoice Pro session will lose these changes once new audio is captured or the >Audio Suite< Session is closed, except for changes saved to the Default User Presets.

TIPS: For best results

Where to find the plug-ins

These new plug-ins are found in the Pro Tools Audio Suite “Other” plug-in menu (along with the Revoice Pro Link plug-in, which can still be used).

How to use the Quick APT plug-in

Basic steps

With the APT Plug-in open, the basic instructions are as simple as this:

  1. Select the Guide Audio in Pro Tools and press the Revoice Pro APT Capture button.
  2. Select the Dub Audio in Pro Tools and Press the Revoice Pro APT Capture button.
  3. Press the Revoice Pro APT Spot button
(Depending on the track selection, the audio can replace the selected Dub audio or be placed into a separate track.)

This actually will work much of the time.

However, we also provide the full details below to highlight certain key points for clarity and help the user deal with any problems.

Detailed steps

  1. When the Revoice Pro APT plug-in is selected from the Pro Tools Audio Suite menu, it will appear as shown below.
    Audio Suite APT Select Guide
  2. Select the audio in Pro Tools to be used as the Guide (if you haven't already done so) as shown below.Audio Suite APT Sel Guide Audio
  3. With the Quick APT Capture Guide tick box selected, press the APT plug-in Capture button at the bottom of the plug-in window. This will send the selected audio to the Revoice Pro Session (shown below - but which can remain hidden if desired).Audio Suite APT Guide Captured
  4. Note that now in the APT Plug-in window (shown below) - the Capture Dub tick box will be automatically selected.

  5. Select the audio in Pro Tools to be used as the Dub as shown belowAudioSuite APT Select Dub in Pro Tools
  6. With the Quick APT Capture Dub tick box selected, press the APT plug-in Capture button. This will cause several things to happen:
    • The selected audio will be loaded in the Dub track of the Revoice Pro Session (which can remain hidden if desired). Any existing audio in the Dub track will be removed.
    • An APT process is created. This process is created using the APT settings you last saved in the APT Control panel using the "Save As User Default Preset" command.
  7. You can optionally ignore, inspect, or audition the processing that has taken place in the Revoice Pro session, which will look similar to that shown below. However, nothing further has to be done in the Revoice Pro window.

  8. If you do need to change the APT Processing setting, you can open the APT Control panel (shown below) by selecting the Revoice Pro window and, with the APT control blocks selected, press P to open the APT Control panel. Then change the settings and press the Space Bar to re-process and audition the audio. If it is OK, you can optionally save the new settings as the Default User Preset for the next APT process or simply go to the next step.
  9. Use one of the method below to send the processed audio to a selected Pro Tools track.
    • Do nothing if you want the processed audio to return to Pro Tools into the track and position of the Dub audio in Pro Tools (if it is still selected following step 5 above).
    • Use the Quick APT Audio Suite plug-in track selection to select a track (Audio 3 is shown below in this example)
      Audio Suite APT Sel Track
    • If “no track selected” is displayed instead of a track, manually select an area in any Pro Tools track.
  10. Press the Quick APT plug-in Spot button. The processed audio will be sent to the Pro Tools track selected in step 9. (To Audio 3 in the example below)

What if the processing goes wrong

The options are:
  1. Check that the audio selections follow the recommendations here.
  2. If the whole output signal seems wrong, change the processing settings and redo it.
  3. For the APT process, you can alternatively use the Audio Suite Link Module and the Revoice Pro procedures outlined here and Videos.

How to use the Audio Suite Doubler plug-in

The Audio Suite "Quick" Doubler plug-in works in a similar manner to the APT plug-in.

The main difference is that it only requires capturing one input signal instead of two, so there are no signal selection controls in the plug-in. This means the primary controls are Capture and Spot.

But like the APT process, the Revoice Pro Doubler's Default User Preset settings will be used in this streamlined process, so the user must ensure the settings are correct for the application.

Audio Suite Doubler - Basic processing steps

Audio Suite DoublerWith the Revoice Pro Doubler Plug-in (shown right) opened from the Audio Suite "Other" plug-in menu (shown above in the APT instructions) the basic instructions are simple:

  1. Select the (mono or stereo) Audio in Pro Tools that you wish to input to the Doubler and press the Revoice Pro Doubler Capture button (shown above).
  2. Ensure a destination track is selected in the Doubler or in Pro Tools and press the Revoice Pro Doubler Spot button (shown above).
(Normally a doubled output will be sent to a different track than the Input track.)

Essential Details

As in the APT process, if you do need to change the Doubler Processing setting, you can open the Doubler Control panel by selecting the Revoice Pro window and, with the Doubler input process control block selected, press P to open the Doubler Control panel. Change the settings as required and press the Space Bar to re-process and audition the audio. If it is OK, you can optionally save the new settings as the Default User Preset for the next Doubler process or simply press Spot.

Other details regarding the Doubler and its settings can be found here.
